Mooney viscometer for rubber compound testing

This rotational shear mooney viscometer is used for the determination of the viscosity of polymers and vulcanization behavior of rubber at a fixed rotor speed and a predefined temperature.

The data acquisition and the controlling of the testing instrument is made by the PC by means of the MonControl analysis software. For the storage and analysis of the determined measurement data a modern SQL database structure is provided.

System Description


The testing instrument consists of the machine case, a PC with screen, keyboard and mouse as well as a printer.

The data acquisition and the controlling of the testing instrument is made by the PC by means of the MonControl analysis software. For the storage and analysis of the determined measurement data a modern SQL database structure is provided.

The torque is created by a replaceable rotor which is completely embedded in the test material in a closed test chamber. The rotational movement is created by a geared motor with a fixed speed of 2 turns per minute. The drive system is safeguarded by motor overload protection and will be switched off if the maximum permitted torque is exceeded.

The closing of the test chamber is done by an pneumatically closing system with a closing force of 11,6 KN at 4,2 bars air pressure. A safety shield is closed before the test chambers are closed. Opening of the test chambers is possible at every time of a test. Also there is a stand-by function for closing the test chambers without running a test.

The temperature control of both electrically heated test chambers is made by the MonControl Analyses Software with a separate control system for each test die. The temperature control and temperature measurement is performed by PT 100 resistance thermometers.

The measurement of the reaction torque is made by a DMS torque transducer with a very high resolution which is directly mounted on the drive system.

Mooney volume punch

For the exact production of test samples for the MV 3000 Basic, the R-VS 3000 sample cutter for rheometers is an available option. This volume punch is used for rapid and accurate preparation of test specimens. The usage of a volume cutter is recommended because this ensures reliable and reproducible test results.
